Making AI Useful (and mildly tolerable)

The problem

Sound familiar?

Final_V12_UseThisOne(2).xlsx

The spreadsheet that runs everything, until someone sorts the wrong column and suddenly Dave's salary is attached to the wrong department. Instant chaos.

Copy. Paste. Repeat.

Time returns, attendance records, contact lists, manually copied between sheets every week because that's just how it's always been done. There's another way.

40MB and climbing.

That tidy little project tracker is now a monster that freezes when you hit filter. It was never a database. It was never meant to be.

There's a smarter way. It doesn't require a master's degree.

(Oisín has one anyway. But that's beside the point.)

Our framework

The gap where AI projects die, and the four bridges across it.

Most AI projects don't fail on the tech. They fall into the gap between a clever demo and a team actually using it. These are the four spans I build across, every time. Skip one and the whole thing wobbles.

  2. Leadership & trustbring people with you
  3. Operations & implementationship it into the day job
  4. Strategy & infrastructurebuild for what's next
  1. Design & explainabilityAI you can open up and explain, not a black box you have to take on faith.
  2. Leadership & trustGetting the people who sign it off on board, and the people who use it comfortable.
  3. Operations & implementationThe unglamorous bit: building it, wiring it in, and making it survive contact with Monday.
  4. Strategy & infrastructureThe plumbing and the plan underneath, so it still makes sense in two years.

About Oisín

Not a consultant who learned some buzzwords.

Oisín trained in data-intensive astrophysics at Cardiff University, applying machine learning to astrophysical data, spent four years analysing data inside the HSE and Tusla, and started DataBridges in 2021 because digital transformation projects kept making work harder, not easier. He now also teaches AI at UCD Professional Academy. Oisín has worked inside the HSE and Tusla before consulting for organisations like them.

  • MSc Data-Intensive Astrophysics (Distinction) · Cardiff
  • UCD Professional Academy Lecturer

EU AI Act

The AI Act deadline is still August 2026. The EU pushed the high-risk rules back to 2027 and 2028. Plenty of us read that as 'we can relax.' We read the wrong line. The Article 50 transparency obligations were never part of that delay. They still land on 2 August 2026...
